Vioxx Global Settlement Proposed

Carey & Danis represents many people against Merck for their heart attacks, strokes, and other Vioxx related injuries. Since accepting this case, we have worked diligently to hold Merck accountable for injuries it caused with its drug Vioxx. Now, we are happy to report potentially good news concerning a possible settlement of some Vioxx claims.

Many sources have announced that Merck recently announced a potential global settlement of the personal injury claims of people who ingested Vioxx. We are in the process of carefully analyzing the proposed global settlement. Among other things, we will look at (1) whether the proposed global Vioxx settlement encompasses your claim, and (2) if the Vioxx settlement does, whether it is in your best interest to accept.

There appear to be very strict requirements to get through the gate of the proposed Vioxx global settlement. Among these are (1) documented proof that you ingested at least 30 Vioxx pills, and (2) that you suffered a heart attack or ischemic stroke while taking Vioxx or within two weeks of cessation of Vioxx.

In an ischemic stroke (approximately 80% of strokes), a blood vessel becomes occluded and the blood supply to part of the brain is totally or partially blocked. Ischemic stroke is commonly divided into thrombotic stroke, embolic stroke, systemic hypoperfusion (Watershed or Border Zone stroke), or venous thrombosis.

From the time our clients retained us as their Vioxx attorneys, we have undertaken massive efforts in gathering and analyzing all relevant evidence as well as filing pleadings and other legal papers.

The proposed Vioxx global settlement should be viewed as a positive sign. For the first time, Merck has indicated a willingness to settle at least some of the claims of the people who ingested Vioxx. However, the proposed Vioxx global settlement may not encompass all claims. We are working diligently to further study the proposed Vioxx settlement and determine what affect it has on each of our clients. Once we have conducted a full analysis of the proposed Vioxx global settlement, our clients will be notified.
